Para-Operation is an installation that explores the use of technologies commonly found in ghost hunting, paranormal investigation, and fringe science (electromagnetic pumps, inductive fields, bells and radio) to engage with phenomena in unexpected ways. Drawing on experimental radio, DIY electronics, field-recording, and esoteric research, the installation employs circuits intentionally designed to ‘let the outside in,’ inviting rogue signals and environmental interference to disrupt and alter the behavior of the system.
The installation rethinks how broadcast technologies alter perception, using the raw properties of electricity to expose unstable relationships between signal and noise. Embracing live processes, situated materials, open mechanisms, and inter-media constructions, Para-Operation opens a space where the physical and the spectral, the structured and the unpredictable, coexist and collide.
